On Monday morning, April 22, 2024, the General Director of the National Agency for Energy Control (ANME), Mr. Fathi Al-Hanchi, supervised the opening of the third edition of the "MeetMed Week" conference in Hammamet, which is being held from April 22 to 24, organized by the National Agency for Energy Control in partnership with the National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use (APRUE), in the presence of Its General Director , Mr. Marwan Chaabane, the Executive Director of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), Mr. Jawad Al-Kharaz, Ms. Marina Menchetti, representative of the European Union Commission in Tunisia, Ms. Roberta Boniotti, Secretary General of the Mediterranean Association of the National Agency for Energy Control (MEDENER), in addition to specialists and interveners in the field.
The third edition of "MeetMed" is an opportunity to bring together regional experts, municipalities and representatives of the private sector to promote the exchange of experiences and foster effective cooperation to address the challenges posed by the energy transition in the region, especially in the field of energy efficiency.
The forum will also focus on presenting the results achieved through the "MeetMed" project and discuss actions to be systematically implemented in the coming years.
The MeetMed project, funded by the European Union and dedicated to the building and equipment sector, is managed by the Regional Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies and the MEDENER network. a network of agencies specialized in energy control in the Mediterranean.
The organization of these days in partnership with the Algerian Agency for Energy Rationalization showed the possibility of regional and Maghreb cooperation and exchange of experiences with Mediterranean countries in areas related to energy rationalization and renewable energies, said Mr. Fathi El Hanchi.
The General Director of the National Agency for Energy Control (ANME) pointed out that Tunisia has adopted a culture of rationalizing energy consumption since the mid-1980s, highlighting that Tunisia has achieved major results, especially at the institutional, technical and legal levels, as well as in the field of communication and awareness-raising.
He explained that the Energy Transition Fund has funded more than 1,600 program contracts in various sectors, including the agricultural sector, the industrial sector, and construction, and has enabled the investment of at least 1,500 million dinars.
He pointed out that the initial results since 2010 have saved 11 billion dinars in energy savings, thanks to the outstanding national effort in this field, in which several institutions, including the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, are involved. He also stressed the need for integrated intervention at the neighboring and regional level in order to have a coherent energy transition policy in Tunisia.
He announced that the Energy Transition Fund support program has allocated 50 million euros to implement a number of projects in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energies in Tunisia.
For his part, the General Director of the National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use in Algeria, Mr. Marwan Chaabane, said that their participation in this conference gives importance to the Mediterranean consultation in the field of energy transition, adding that this conference is an opportunity to exchange ideas and develop partnership between countries that are more advanced in the field of energy control and that have great potential in the field of renewable energies, especially solar energy.
