The inauguration ceremonies were held under the supervision of Ms. Fatma Thabet Chiboub, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, in the presence of the Secretary of State in charge of energy transition, as well as several senior government officials, ambassadors, representatives of partner institutions and donors, and key stakeholders in the energy sector, at both project sites.
These two projects were developed במסגרת an international partnership involving the Norwegian company Scatec and Aeolus, a subsidiary of the Japanese group Toyota Tsusho. This reflects Tunisia’s success in establishing a favorable and stable investment climate in the renewable energy sector and its ability to attract high-quality investments in this strategic field.
The inauguration ceremonies provided an opportunity to strengthen engagement with partners and donors, while highlighting the strategic importance of these projects in supporting national ambitions, particularly the objective of increasing the share of renewable energy to 35% of the national energy mix by 2030. They also contribute to regional development, job creation, and economic growth.
Active participation of the National Agency for Energy Conservation
In this context, the Director General of the National Agency for Energy Conservation, Mr. Nafaâ Baccari, accompanied by several agency officials, took part in the inauguration ceremonies, confirming the Agency’s key role in supporting major renewable energy projects.
These strategic projects contribute to promoting investment in clean energy and strengthening the national electricity production system. They represent an important milestone in the energy transition process by contributing to:
- increasing the share of renewable energy in electricity generation,
- reducing natural gas imports and lowering electricity production costs,
- enhancing national energy security,
- reducing carbon emissions.
The Agency’s participation in this event reaffirms its continued commitment to implementing national energy transition policies and supporting projects with strong economic and environmental impact, in line with the national strategy for energy conservation and renewable energy development, and contributing to sustainable and inclusive development in Tunisia.
It is worth noting that the National Agency for Energy Conservation has contributed to the development of the legal, strategic, and planning framework for renewable energy projects, as well as to the establishment of the legislative and regulatory framework, including Law No. 12 of 2015 and its implementing regulations.
The Agency has also contributed to the preparation of tender specifications under the concession regime, the evaluation of bids, and the promotion of legal and technical frameworks, the national strategy, and the incentives provided by the State in the field of renewable energy.
Furthermore, the Agency is a member of the technical committee for private electricity generation from renewable energy, which is responsible for granting authorizations for all projects in this field.
